Even Jesus fasted. Today we’ll be taking a look at Jesus’ 40 day fast! Let’s dig into this passage and begin to lean into our fast just as Jesus did.

Matthew 3:16 – 4:2 “After being baptized, Jesus came up immediately from the water; and behold, the heavens were opened, and he saw the Spirit of God descending as a dove and lighting on Him, and behold, a voice out of the heavens said, “This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well-pleased.” Then Jesus was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil. And after He had fasted forty days and forty nights, He then became hungry.”

Jesus’ 40 Days

As the heavens are opened Jesus hears “you are my beloved son”. Then He is immediately led to the wilderness to enter a 40 day fast. Before starting His earthly ministry, Jesus fasted! The power He received from the Spirit was what propelled that ministry. See, when we fast we are stripped of self and given power from the Spirit. So, seasons of fasting will produce power in your life. 

Another thing to note, is Jesus received confirmation/revelation of His identity and if you continue reading you’ll see the enemy directly attack that. Rather than trying to battle your own thoughts or demonic voices lean into this fast. It will slow down the internal traffic that takes place in you daily. Allow the Spirit of God to further reveal your identity and hone in on that revelation. Instead of proving who you are by what you do let’s flip it. Because of who you are, this is what you do!
