Day 18: Knowing Scripture with Context

Day 18

Only a few more days left in this fast and there is still so much to receive. There are too many people that read the scriptures out of context. Rather than Finding Jesus within the words they use it to benefit themselves. The Word is a person. He became flesh and dwelt among us. Let’s look at the true context in today’s devotion.

Joel 2:28-29 “It will come about after this. That I will pour out My Spirit on all mankind; And your sons and daughters will prophesy, Your old men will dream dreams, Your young men will see visions. Even on the male and female servants I will pour out My Spirit in those days.”

 Knowing Scripture with Context

So many of us have read this passage and get excited without knowing how it comes about! Read before and read after. Look at what it says earlier in verse 12: “Yet even now, declares the Lord, Return to Me with all your heart, And with fasting, weeping and mourning; And rend your heart and not your garments.”

So here’s the full context. In order for sons and daughters to prophesy, old men to dream dreams and young men to see visions we must return to the Lord with our whole hearts! With fasting, weeping and mourning we render our hearts not our outward garments. We give the Lord our hearts and surrender through fasting! In this we can ask Him for dreams and visions! See what happens when you give Him your all.

We love you, we bless you, we’ll see you tomorrow!
