Day 5: Deliverance through Fasting

Day 5

Have you prayed in the Holy Spirit yet? If not, stop what you’re doing and go do that!

I’m excited for us to look at deliverance through fasting. It’s similar to salvation in that from salvation your spirit man is saved, but there is a sanctification process. You need to renew your mind, stop living according to the lusts of the flesh and start living a life unto Christ. So from fasting there is often a form of deliverance we walk through. This passage has incredible insight on how the Lord views fasting and what is possible when we fast.

Deuteronomy 8:2-3  “You shall remember all the way which the Lord your God has led you in the wilderness these forty years, that He might humble you, testing you, to know what was in your heart, whether you would keep His commandments or not. 3 He humbled you and let you be hungry, and fed you with manna which you did not know, nor did your fathers know, that He might make you [a]understand that man does not live by bread alone, but man lives by everything that proceeds out of the mouth of the Lord.”

Deliverance through Fasting

It’s as if Moses leads the people out of Egypt and into the wilderness, to get Egypt out of them! It’s one thing to get saved, but from salvation you need a sanctification process. Fasting often brings us into the context of the wilderness where God is able to strip us down. No hiding, no busy work, just you and the Lord. Fasting humbles us, tests us and reveals what’s in our hearts. It puts in check how much we value things that God has asked of us. Fasting leads us into a space of small us and big God!

The beauty of fasting is it removes something or many things to expose what is residing at the foundation or bottom of your barrel. As we see this, it gives way for opportunity to nail it to the cross. We encourage you to allow the Holy Spirit to expose your heart. You may find parts of your past come up or the fact that you have a lot of wasted time in your day. Maybe you begin to see how much you’ve neglected the Lord. Rather than reliving your past, release it. The Holy Spirit brings things to the surface so you can release it out of your heart. Don’t grab hold of it again and relive it. Allow your heart to rid itself of Egypt! What a powerful activity fasting can be.

We love you, we bless you, we’ll see you tomorrow!
