21 Day Fast

21 DAY FAST BEGINS JANUARY 1ST

21 Day Fast

Fasting doesn't change God, it changes us

Here is your preparation guide to our 21 day fast:

1. Make Your Commitment

Pray about the kind of fast you should undertake. Jesus implied that all of His followers should fast (Matthew 6:16-18; 9:14,15). For Him it was a matter of when believers would fast, not if they would do it.

Before you fast, decide the following:

  • What are you to fast personally?

  • How much time per day will you commit to God's Word and Prayer?

  • Where will you meet with Him on a consistent basis? (Kitchen table, bedroom, prayer closet? This needs to be an uninterruptible space.)

2. Prepare yourself spiritually

The very purpose of fasting and praying is to hear better what God is already speaking. Fasting doesn’t change God, it changes us.

Here are several things you can do to prepare your heart:

  • Ask the Holy Spirit to help you identify any known or unknown sins. Confess every sin the Holy Spirit calls to your remembrance and accept God’s forgiveness (1 John 1:9).

  • Seek forgiveness from all whom you have offended, and forgive all who have hurt you (Mark 11:25; Luke 11:4; 17:3-4).

  • Surrender your life fully to Jesus as your Lord and Master (Romans 12:1-2)

  • Do not underestimate spiritual oppostion. Satan sometimes intesifies the natural battle between body and spirit (Galatians 5:16-17)

  • Meditate on the attributes of God, His love, sovereignty, power, wisdom, faithfulness, grace compassion, and others (Psalm 48;9-10, 103:1-13).

3. Prepare yourself physically

Fasting requires reasonable precautions. Consult your physician first, especially if you take prescription medication or have a chronic ailment. Some persons should never fast without professional supervision.

Physical preparation makes the drastic change in your eating routine a little easier so that you can turn your full attention to the Lord in prayer.

  • Do not rush into the fast. Start weaning yourself from things you will be fasting.

  • Rest. Take some time to rest and calm your body down from whatever you are facing. (If you don’t know how to do this, turn to Jesus, He is the best at this 😉)

  • Begin drinking lots of water. Many people experience body aches and pains when starting a fast due to lack of hydration. Start extra hydration now.
